Du Mexique au Maroc de Porfirio Thierry Muñoz Ledo, Ambassadeur du Mexique

It is a great honour for us to present in Morocco this exhibition of Mexican contemporary art entitled « Desert » made possible by the reknowned Mexican artist Agueda Lozano.

The striking landscapes of the Mexican desert figuring in these works demonstrate that, in spite of the geographical distance separating Mexico from Morocco, the vital spaces in which our cultures, languages, music, and our most deeply-rooted traditions develop are, in fact, very close.

This sample of contemporary Mexican painting has been selected to underscore the elements which the deserts on both sides of the Atlantic have in common. By expressing its space, colours, lines and depths, the artist seeks, above all, to show the importance of the role played by the desert in the daily life of our peoples, and how it shapes our cultures. The pictural representation of sand-dunes, cliffs and narrow canyons continues to nourish the collective imagination of the Moroccan and Mexican peoples.
