TOWARDS TIME de Carlos Montemayor
There is a force which fires every living being’s desire to remain alive. From this force, this desire to live, is born the aspiration to grow with the greatness of the world that we see, hear, touch and wish to appropriate. Because we develop in the world through our senses, it is through them that we feel what is distant and what is close, the body we caress, and the constellations we perceive in the canopy of heaven. But we also aspire to grow through memory, ideas, intelligence, emotions ; from these deeper dimensions, we turn towards the past or the future which trouble and attract us ; towards love that transforms, tortures and illuminates ; towards the origin of the world itself, of the universe into which we merge through science, religion or music. This aspiration to open out to life is an aspiration for freedom. It is the desire to understand, from the materiality of the world and the body, the flight towards freedom in space and time, of memory and love, of passion and amazement, of knowledge and revelation. This flight contains the plenitude that life can attain.
And this flight is the essential breath of Agueda Lozano’s pictural and sculptural work. From the materiality of the canvas or of steel, Agueda Lozano’s art takes flight towards freedom, towards plenitude. Better still, it aspires to be fixed at the very instant of taking flight. Through the chromatic scales which glide like a flight fending its own space, the silhouettes, shapes, abstractions, and lines appear to be suspended on their own materiality. Yet it is surprising that from that very materiality itself, her work aspires to remain in perpetual flight.
A symbol of her complete work is the sculpture Vers le Temps. From its plate of stainless steel six millimetres thick, the sculpture takes flight towards freedom, towards plenitude. It is a monument to the aspirations of every being, a monument to the perennial quality of the flight in which life bursts into flame in its passion for itself and its desire to grow in the world. Vers le Temps is the symbol of that determination which encourages us to reach plenitude in order to attain the freedom to live. In the beauty of that sculpture, the image of art and of the human being are renewed : let us share with that sculpture the passion for flight towards freedom, towards the secret core of all that aspires to invade the firmament, in that celestial blue, in time which is always renewing itself, like a single moment ready to start again and, tirelessly, to take flight.
